How To Setup
1) First upload your bnc.tar.gz to the ftp site of your shell, place it in YOUR home directory.
wget http://www.ircadmin.net/bnc/bnc2.9.4.tar.gz
2) Then uncompress bnc.tar. To do so type : gunzip bnc2.6.2.tar.gz THEN: tar -xvf bnc2.6.2.tar
File bnc2.9.4.tar.gz
3) Then all files should have been untared into folder bnc2.6.2 Go into bnc2.6.2 by typing: cd bnc2.6.2
-bash-3.00$ cd bnc2.9.4
-bash-3.00$ ls
bnc* Changelog config.status* ctcp.o motd send.h
bnc.c cmds.c configure* example.conf pid.bnc send.o
bncchk* cmds.o configure.in Makefile README server.c
bnc.conf conf.c conf.o Makefile.in sbuf.c server.o
bnc.log config.h COPYING Makefile.out sbuf.h struct.h
bnc.o config.h.in ctcp.c mkpasswd* sbuf.o
bncsetup* config.log ctcp.h mkpasswd.c send.c
4) You should now be in the bnc folder. Now you must configure the BNC. Type './configure' to do this.
5) Now you need to compile your bnc. Type 'make' and it will cause the BNC to compile.
6) Next, you can run the setup program by typing './bncsetup' - this will automate the setup process. When you are finished, you are ready to run the BNC and can skip step 7. If you wish to edit the config file manually, you can do so by following step 7.
7) (OPTIONAL) How to edit bnc.conf properly...
A) For the pt: u can make the number anything, Exg. 6969 . This number will be used to connect later on.
B) For #ps: that is where u put your password.
[(NOTE) there is no login for bnc, only a password. Also remember not to use an easy password, because yes, people can hack your bnc.] When you have entered your preferred password, remove the # from ps so it will use the password you have chosen.
C) Next where it says mu enter the amount of users you want on your bnc. I recommend only 1. You. =)
D) leave the dp alone.
C) Finally, enter the host you would like to use for bnc. Ex. i.am.the.ircadmin.net Then remove the # from #vh
Writing your configuration to bnc.conf
Finished! You may now edit bnc.conf to make any special changes
-bash-3.00$ ./bnc

--Configuration:
Daemon port......: 6669
Maxusers.........: unlimited
Default conn port: 6667
Pid File.........: ./pid.bnc
Vhost Default....: proxysx
Process Id.......: 605
Exit ./bnc{7} :Successfully went into the background.
Once you have done all this, please continue on to the How To Use guide, which is next, to learn how to get connected to your bnc.
How To Use
Please see the How To Setup guide first, which is the information before this.
1) After you have done the setup type ./bnc If you have set up bnc properly it should say:
Myshell:~/bnc2.6.2> ./bnc
Irc Proxy v2.6.2 GNU project (C) 1998-99
Coded by James Seter :bugs-> (Pharos@nospam.com) or IRC pharos on efnet
--Using conf file ./bnc.conf --Configuration:
Daemon port......:1234
Maxusers.........:1
Default conn port:6667
Pid File.........:./pid.bnc
Vhost Default....:-SYSTEM DEFAULT-
Process Id.......:12345
Exit ./bnc{7} :Sucessfully went into the background. (Only On Some Shells).
2) Connecting to you bnc server.
A) Open your irc client.
B) type /server host.whatever.com:1234
What is 1234?
1234 is the Daemon port which is needed to connect to your bnc.
C) When you have done this you should see
[12:34] -Bnc- You need to say /quote PASS Do exactly what it says type:
/quote PASS yourpasswordhere (in mIRC, you can simply do /pass )
D) Then it should say password ok.
To connect to an irc server then type:
/quote conn irc.idle.net 6667 yourpwhere
If you have done all of this correctly you should be connected to your bnc server right now.. =D
